About the Author

KaSonndra Leigh was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She now lives
in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, North Carolina. She likes to
write about people doing fantastical things in magical worlds. Her two
sons have made her promise to write a boy book next.

She holds the MFA in creative writing, and loves to play CLUE,
Monopoly (the Indiana Jones version), and Pandora's Box (good writer's
block therapy). She lives in an L-shaped house with a garden dedicated
to her grandmother. It has a secret library complete with fairies,
Venetian plastered walls, and a desk made out of clear blue glass.

My Thoughts

The Lost Immortals: When Copper Sun Falls was written in a futuristic world, 2067,  where a group of angels are at war. The Caduceans (good angels) are trying to save the human race from the Tainteds (bad angels), who are trying to take over after the Great War, 55 years ago. The story started really strong and captivating. It drew me right in. However, there were parts in which I had to read multiple times due to confusion. I think there were too many characters to try to keep up with and sometimes I found that there wasn't really a lot of tie in to the next paragraph or chapter.  There were also some parts in the middle that was a bit drawn out.  I did enjoy reading about the main character and her connection between both "worlds" of angel-bloods. I also enjoyed watching her powers develop. There were a lot of questions left unanswered that I felt could have been addressed or discussed at some point during the book. 

Overall, I thought the premise behind the story was good. Very different from other paranormal stories I have read.

Excerpt: 

Everything would be okay, I told myself. Christopher was my boyfriend. I trusted him. I crunched inside the wicker basket and curled my legs underneath me. I wiped my sweating palms onto my black slacks. The audience stopped calling for an encore. They were so silent I wasn’t sure anyone was still out there.
I’d barely gotten my balance before the first sword barreled into the basket with a lot more force than we’d practiced. Startled, I realized Christopher was keyed up from the magic show performance. He was overestimating the force he was putting behind the swords.
I tried to figure out how to tell him to slow down. I couldn’t very well call out to him or the audience would hear.
Before I could it figure out, the second sword zoomed past me and into the basket. The two swords crossed over my head, and I rearranged myself so I could crouch lower. As I shifted, a third sword whizzed by my left arm and peeled off a small layer of my skin. I saw the blood before I felt the searing pain.

Mindy Hardwick enjoys writing tales of romance for teens and adults. Her books for young adults include Weaving Magic and Stained Glass Summer.  Mindy gets many of her ideas from the poetry workshop she facilitates at a juvenile detention center. Excerpt

A five-second scan of her apartment told Grace it had not been vacant during her absence. A few more seconds confirmed that the vagrants, despite their hopeful looks during her arrest, had not been the culprits. They wouldn't have left the steak. 

No, whoever had turned her apartment upside down had been looking for something. The sofa cushions lay on the floor, the contents of the kitchen cabinets, though present, were strewn across the kitchen, and when she entered her bedroom, she saw the bedding all over the floor.

Immediately, she pried up the loose floorboard and checked the contents of the safe. The diary was still there. Breathing a sigh of relief, she took off her coat and placed the diary in her backpack for safekeeping.

About the Author

Christine Amsden has been writing science fiction and fantasy for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.

At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, a condition that effects the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams.

My Thoughts

I'm not often a sci-fi reader but I do like a good Dystopian novel. The Immortality Virus was a decent read. The idea of living forever is not much fun to me but I like that the main character was a strong woman who could hold her own. Grace isn't only strong but she's also has a great sense of humor. Although parts of the story was a bit slow, there was enough action and enough of a storyline for me to want to continue to read. 

Christine Amsden has done a very good job of writing a good sic-fi/dystopian novel. For those that enjoy sic-fi and dystopia or if you want to start reading that genre, this would be a decent book to start with.
